Join us for a special evening with Elizabeth Halen, owner and pastry chef of Flying Monkey Bakery, a beloved scratch bakery inside Philadelphia's iconic Reading Terminal Market. After setting aside a doctoral program in favor of her true passion, Elizabeth took over Flying Monkey in 2010 and built it into one of the city's most celebrated bakeries — expanding operations to a wholesale and catering kitchen in Chadds Ford while keeping every whoopie pie, brownie, and pie crust handmade in small batches. The bakery has been featured on the Food Network, The Today Show, and The Rachel Ray Show, and Elizabeth holds the distinction of being the first woman elected President of the Reading Terminal Market Merchants Association. In this conversation, moderated by InKind Baking Steering Committee Chair Martha Cross, we’ll explore Elizabeth's journey, creative process, and the inspirations behind her work in the kitchen. Guests will have plenty of time for questions, stories, and sweet insights to take back to their own baking. Light refreshments and community connection will round out the night.
