Privacy Policy

Our Philly (ourphilly.org) is a community events guide for Philadelphia and the surrounding region. We collect the minimum information needed to run the site, send the newsletter, and let people post and follow events. We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for anything beyond what you signed up for. Questions go to bill@ourphilly.org.

Our Philly is an independent project run by Bill McBride in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. References to “we,” “us,” and “Our Philly” in this policy mean that team.

Account information

If you create an Our Philly account, we store your email address and a hashed password (handled by our auth provider, Supabase). If you set a display name, follow neighborhoods, save events, or bless events, we store those choices so we can show your personalized digest and remember your preferences across visits.

Newsletter

When you subscribe to the Weekend Roundup, we store your email address with our newsletter provider, Sender.net, and tag you with the “Weekend” group so you receive the right edition. You can unsubscribe from any newsletter we send by clicking the unsubscribe link in the footer of that email.

We also collect email addresses through lead-generation forms on social media platforms (such as Facebook and Instagram). If you submit your email through one of those forms, we add you to the Weekend Roundup list. The same unsubscribe link applies to every newsletter we send.

If you mark one of our emails as spam, we treat that as a request to unsubscribe and remove your address from the list. People sometimes report a message as spam without using the unsubscribe link, and we want to honor that signal either way. Sender.net surfaces these reports to us so we can act on them.

Event submissions

When you submit an event on Our Philly, we store what you submit (event details, your name, your email) so we can publish the listing and follow up if we need to.

Contact form

If you write to us through the contact form, we receive your name, email, subject, and message via SendGrid. We use that information to reply to you. We don't add contact form submitters to the newsletter.

Analytics and usage data

Like most modern websites, we measure how the site is used so we can fix things that are broken and improve what isn't. We use PostHog and Google Analytics for this. Both providers log standard request data — the pages you visit, the buttons you click, the device and browser you're using, a rough approximate location based on IP address, and a per-visitor identifier so we can group sessions together. We don't link this analytics data to your account email.

• Payment information. There are no paid features and no checkout on Our Philly.
• Government IDs or sensitive personal categories.
• Precise geolocation. We don't track your GPS coordinates or device location. Map features on the site work from the addresses you and other event hosts have already shared, not from your phone's location.
• Children's information. The site is not directed at children under 13.

We don't sell your information to anyone. We use a small set of trusted service providers (sometimes called “sub-processors”) to actually run the site. Each one only handles the slice of data needed to do their job:

• Supabase — database and authentication. Stores your account info, neighborhood follows, saved events, and the event listings.
• Vercel — hosting and serverless functions. Sees standard request metadata as part of serving pages.
• Sender.net — newsletter delivery and subscriber list.
• SendGrid — transactional email (contact form replies and event submission confirmations).
• PostHog — product analytics and session events.
• Google Analytics — aggregate site usage metrics.

We may also share information when we are required to by law, or to investigate and prevent abuse of the service.

We use cookies for two main reasons: keeping you signed in to your account (handled by Supabase auth), and the analytics described above. We don't use third-party advertising cookies.

• Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in the footer of any newsletter email.
• Delete your account from your profile page. Deleting removes your account record and your associated personalized data (saved events, follows, blessings, digest preferences). You can also email bill@ourphilly.org if you prefer we handle it.
• Turn off the daily digest from your profile page at any time.
• Request a copy of your data, correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing bill@ourphilly.org. We'll respond as promptly as we can.
• Opt out of analytics using your browser's “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signals, or by using an extension that blocks analytics scripts.

We keep account and event information while your account is active and while the event is relevant to people in Philadelphia. Newsletter subscriber records are kept until you unsubscribe. Contact-form messages are kept long enough for us to handle the request and any follow-up. PostHog retains event-level analytics data for 12 months. Google Analytics retains user-level data for 14 months. After those windows, only aggregated reports remain.

Our Philly is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, please contact bill@ourphilly.org and we'll remove the account.

Our Philly is operated from the United States. Our service providers may store and process data in other countries. By using the site, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.

We'll update this page when we change how we collect or use information. The “last updated” date at the top will always reflect the current version. For material changes that affect you directly, we'll do our best to notify you in advance through the site or via email.
