University City Historical Society (UCHS) is pleased to invite you to our next event, Growing Through Preservation - Paul Steinke Shares a Philadelphia Study. Free and open to all. Please register HERE We are pleased to host Paul Steinke, Executive Director of the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, who will present Growing Through Preservation: The Economic Impact of Historic Preservation in Philadelphia. This new report quantifies how preservation contributes to the city’s economy, housing, and community vitality. The study reveals that historic preservation initiatives are a significant economic driver, generating billions in investment, creating thousands of jobs annually, and supporting affordable housing through the reuse of older buildings. It also contributes to sustainability goals by reducing embodied carbon. Historic districts contribute to economic vitality as locations of choice for businesses. These neighborhoods offer character-rich retail and office locations that vary in size and affordability, making them attractive to a diversity of businesses, start-ups, and creative industries. With a special emphasis on historic district-rich West Philadelphia, join Paul and UCHS to learn about this analysis that was commissioned by the Alliance to quantify the impact of preservation initiatives and how we could leverage preservation moving forward to increase positive outcomes for our neighborhoods. In-person1 The New Flesh presents a screening of Metropolis
The New Flesh presents A screening of Metropolis A private movie club in Philadelphia screens Fritz Lang's 1927 silent film masterpiece from Germany. This will be the latest version of the film with music that has been recreated for it. English subtitles will be used to go with the intertitles (moments when a silent film has frames of commentary or dialogue for you to read.) There will be a special guest to introduce the film from Germany who has a very personal connection to its creation, who has never spoken about the film until this special evening. It's 25 cents to see the film with all proceeds going to The Rotunda. Please be on time to meet the special guest. The surprise guest will be interviewed by a local film critic for 5 minutes. The film is about two and half hours. The special guest will be signing autographs after the film for 10 dollars each, also with all proceeds going to The Rotunda. Since the guest is very private and reclusive please don't approach them or ask them any personal questions at the signing after the screening. You will not be permitted to photograph them. Do not attempt find to out where they are staying in the city. They will be flying back to Germany that evening in private accommodations. - 2025-12-06📍 University City

T his VERY SPECIAL event will be two dynamic musical adventures in one: -- PARTICIPATORY COMMUNITY JAM @ 6:30pm Calling all Philadelphia musicians...we know you want to be in this band! Bring your instruments to play along with the Global Orchestra. We'll get you in the Samba, Senegalese Sabar and Klezmer groove as we jam together on songs from the show. Musicians of all backgrounds and skill levels are welcome. -- CONCERT FOR ALL -- Doors open @ 8pm Come to the Rotunda ready to sing-along, dance-along and (gasp!)
