Yannick Leads Strauss and Schubert
When
Sat, Apr 17 at 8pm
Everything about this program charms, with music full of wit and warmth and color. Schubert’s Eighth Symphony does not sound “Unfinished,” despite its moniker, with burnished woodwinds leading us along a dappled path of dark and light. Josephine Weinlich’s Siren Songs Polka-Mazurka brings a lively dance to the program before Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings unfolds with glowing melodies and folk-inspired warmth, moving from tender intimacy to buoyant, dance-like joy. And Strauss’s Oboe Concerto, which has a special place in Philadelphia Orchestra history, shines in the hands of Philippe Tondre.
