Sunday, May 17 at 10:00 AM·10:00 a.m.·Northern Liberties·The Clay Studio

Posted to Northern Liberties on May 1, 2026

In this one-day workshop, participants will explore the art of Najeonchilgi, a traditional Korean craft that combines najeon (mother-of-pearl inlay) and chilgi (lacquerware). The workshop begins with a slide lecture introducing the history, cultural significance, and contemporary adaptations of this intricate technique. Participants will learn both traditional Najeon cutting methods and updated approaches using a laser cutter and epoxy resin as a modern alternative to lacquer. The hands-on portion includes step-by-step demonstrations using small items provided by the instructor—such as rings, bookmarks, or keychains—before participants move on to adorn their own glazed ceramic works. By the end of the day, you will have created unique, personalized works that blend traditional and contemporary making techniques. Learn More & Register
