Sat, Nov 7 at 10am
Join us for a weekend dedicated to exploring the expressive technique of sgraffito. Participants learn directly from Guest Artist, Clara Holt; gaining insight into her artistic practice while applying the technique to their own work. They are introduced to storytelling through sgraffito, exploring how to bring their own voice into the ceramic surface.Over the two day course, Clara guides participants in using sgraffito on both flat and curved forms, helping them build confidence through demonstrations, structured exercises, and attentive one-to-one support. The workshop includes an introduction to essential tools, materials, and methods, as well as an in-depth look into her creative process and broader artistic influences. This workshop is ideal for those with existing making skills who wish to learn the application of sgraffito—using slips, underglazes, and carving techniques—or for those looking to refine and deepen their current practice. For this workshop, students will be provided with greenware for practicing these techniques. Finished pieces will be bisqued, and glaze fired in an electric kiln with a ^6 clear glaze. About the Artist: My name is Clara Holt, I am an Italian artist based in Milan.
