Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a family program that invites children and adults to learn, reflect, and create together. Families will learn how Dr. King and others took action for freedom and justice to ensure that all people are treated fairly and equally. The program begins with storytelling and artmaking focusing on legendary figures who bravely stood up for civil rights such as Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, John Lewis and more. Through shared activities, families will connect these stories to ideas of courage, kindness, fairness, and working together to build a stronger community. A 2 pm performance by the award-winning team Hip Hop Fundamentals will present an interactive program of breakdancing and storytelling where children will experience American Civil Rights history in a new way, centered around Dr. King 's message of LOVE. Enjoy an afternoon that honors Dr. King’s legacy and inspires families to think about how they can help make positive change in their own communities every day. FREE
2026-01-20📍 Chestnut HillARTZ | MLK Day Celebration with Warren Oree and Friends
Join us as we welcome back Warren Oree, a favorite Music in the Neighborhood performer, for a special Martin Luther King Day program at Woodmere Art Museum! Warren Oree’s command of his upright acoustic bass mesmerizes audiences, unaccustomed to hearing the wide, colorful array of sounds that he can extract. In 2003, Warren Oree co-founded LifeLine Music Coalition, Inc.; a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting jazz and the arts in Philadelphia. For eight years LMC organized the West Oak Lane Jazz & Arts Festival featuring local Philadelphia artists. Join Warren and the Arpeggio Jazz Emsemble for his signature style of “undefeated Jazz.” “Music in the Neighborhood” is generously sponsored by the Henrietta Tower Wurts Memorial of the Philadelphia Foundation. It is a monthly program hosted by ARTZ Philadelphia, with various musical artists from the community performing in the Northwest and Hunting Park neighborhoods of Philadelphia and online, as a component of our “ARTZ in the Neighborhood” project. FREE, pre-registration required
