2026-01-18📍 Society HillHeadhouse Farmers Market
Sundays 10am-2pm year-round under the 18th-century Shambles—the oldest surviving market structure in the country, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966. According to PhilaHistory.org, the market was established in 1745 by mayor Edward Shippen and Joseph Wharton. The Food Trust has operated it since 2007 with 40+ vendors at peak season. Accepts SNAP/EBT, Food Bucks, and WIC/senior vouchers. Winter hours (January-April) shorten to 10am-1pm. Pets no longer permitted inside the Shambles as of March 2025.
2026-01-18Rittenhop Weekly Social Dance
Every Sunday from 1–3:30 p.m., swing dancers take over a corner of Rittenhouse Square for Philadelphia's free outdoor Lindy Hop social dance. Rittenhop has been running for over a decade, keeping alive a quintessentially American dance that originated in Harlem's African American communities during the late 1920s—some say the name honored Charles Lindbergh's famous "hop" across the Atlantic in 1927. Regulars do Lindy Hop and Charleston to DJ'd jazz, with occasional live bands. No experience or partner needed; beginners can try formal lessons Thursday nights at Jazz Attack across the street at the Ethical Society. Rittenhop is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; donations help bring live music and keep the weekly dance free for all.
