Axelle Fanyo, soprano, and Julius Drake, piano
One of the most promising singers of her generation, French soprano Axelle Fanyo has been praised by Renée Fleming for her “charismatic, beautiful voice [of] real star quality.” In her PCMS debut program with the “unfailingly eloquent and supportive” pianist Julius Drake ( The Telegraph ), Fanyo explores the master and apprentice relationship between two pioneering European composers, Arnold Schoenberg and Olivier Messaien, and their American protegés, John Cage and William Bolcom. Flute
Sweet and lilting, the flute is one of the highest voices in the orchestra. Often used to signify springtime or even a playful giggle, flutes are always sure to make a big impact when they take center stage. Flutists bring melodies to life with speed, grace, and agility, so learn all about the flute this January with The Philadelphia Orchestra. The Sound All Around concert series is endowed in perpetuity by the Garrison Family Fund for Children’s Concerts, with additional support from the Acadia Fund. - 2026-01-31📍 Rittenhouse

Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring
Rediscover 20th-century classics that represent landmark moments in The Philadelphia Orchestra’s history! The Orchestra performed the 1922 U.S. premiere of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring , the work that had so scandalized Paris audiences only nine years earlier. In 1934, the Orchestra gave the U.S. premiere of Shostakovich's First Piano Concerto, one of 11 of the composer's works this Orchestra brought to America for the first time. In these concerts, Shostakovich’s witty, irreverent Concerto will be performed by the “astonishing” Seong-Jin Cho, a pianist of “sensitivity, nuance, tremendous fluidity and elegance of style” ( Bachtrack ).
