Sold out. To join the waitlist, contact the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society at boxoffice@pcmsconcerts.org or 215-569-8080. Praised for their “remarkable maturity” (Hyde Park Herald) , the Terra Quartet’s program opens with one of Haydn’s “London” quartets and concludes with Brahms’s first quartet, completed in 1873 after years of revision. Symphonic in scope, the Brahms is notable for its rich textures and masterful interplay between the string instruments. Bridging these works is Borodin’s D Major Quartet, a piece composed in 1881 as an anniversary gift for his wife. It is structured around a programmatic narrative of the couple’s relationship, with the cello representing Borodin and the first violin representing his wife, Ekaterina. Rittenhop Weekly Social Dance

Every Sunday from 1–3:30 p.m., swing dancers take over a corner of Rittenhouse Square for Philadelphia's free outdoor Lindy Hop social dance. Rittenhop has been running for over a decade, keeping alive a quintessentially American dance that originated in Harlem's African American communities during the late 1920s—some say the name honored Charles Lindbergh's famous "hop" across the Atlantic in 1927. Regulars do Lindy Hop and Charleston to DJ'd jazz, with occasional live bands. No experience or partner needed; beginners can try formal lessons Thursday nights at Jazz Attack across the street at the Ethical Society. Rittenhop is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; donations help bring live music and keep the weekly dance free for all.
