Handcrafted: Wheel Throwing & Wine Tasting with Pray Tell Winery

Tuesday, April 21 at 7:00 PM·7:00 p.m.·Northern Liberties·The Clay Studio

Did you know that pottery and wine share a rich history dating back over 8,000 years?! Join us for a hands on and engaging evening of wheel throwing and wine tasting with our neighbors, Pray Tell Winery! Enjoy a selection of their wines, entirely fermented and aged in terracotta amphora while throwing your own drinking vessel on the pottery wheel. Our skilled Teaching Artists will guide you through the basics of wheel throwing, while Tom and Sydney from Pray Tell lead you through a tasting and discussion of their unique exploration of wines aged in clay vessels. Each participant makes one wheel-thrown piece, which is then glazed, fired, and ready for pickup in our shop within 2–3 weeks. Pray Tell Winery was founded in 2017 by South Philadelphia native Tom Caruso in Oregon's Willamette Valley. From making wine on the sidewalk with his Italian immigrant grandfather to over fifteen years of professional winemaking across New York, California, and Oregon, he recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of moving the entire operation back east to a warehouse in Olde Kensington. What started as five ambitious barrels in Oregon has since refocused to an exploration of grapes grown across Pennsylvania's vastly diverse vineyard landscape and over two thousand cases produced each year. Sydney Adams, an acclaimed sommelier in the Los Angeles restaurant scene, joined the team in 2022 with a harvest in Abruzzo under her belt. Together, they are making some truly exciting wines and welcome guests
