Formed in Budapest in 1975, this peerless ensemble returns to Philadelphia to perform a new work by Brazilian-American composer Clarice Assad, as well as Haydn’s charming Rider Quartet and Beethoven’s profound and groundbreaking Quartet in C-sharp Minor, Op. 131—which he considered his favorite achievement in the genre. Musicians from Marlboro II
Each summer, musicians from around the world gather in the Green Mountains of Vermont to participate in a “fundamentally natural and unique” approach to music-making ( New York Classical Review ). In their second appearance this season, Musicians from Marlboro reintroduces Untitled —a 2023 PCMS commission by composer and MacArthur “Genius” Tyshawn Sorey—as well as a pair of works by Beethoven, including the vivacious Septet in E-flat Major, Op. 20. Beethoven’s “Eroica”
Conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen exudes star quality, but in a “stunningly successful” 2024 Philadelphia engagement he made stars of the Orchestra, with The Philadelphia Inquirer praising his extraordinary ability to draw inspired performances from the musicians: “the connection is strong.” Salonen is joined by the towering pianist Yefim Bronfman, hailed for his “fire and poetry” ( Seattle Post-Intelligencer ). Live jazz every Sunday from 10:30am-3pm at this Southern Italian restaurant on the Schuylkill River in East Falls. According to the restaurant's website, In Riva has been open for over 14 years, with nearly 100 patio seats—one of the largest outdoor dining spaces in the city. The kitchen specializes in Napoletana-style wood-fired pizza and house-made pasta. Dogs welcome on the patio.

Sunday nights from 7–9 p.m. at Otto's Taproom, the 70-seat gastropub at 29th and Flora Streets in Brewerytown. The bar is named after Otto Charles Wolf, the prolific 19th-century architect who designed many of the neighborhood's historic breweries during Brewerytown's heyday as one of America's largest brewing centers. Otto's focuses on Pennsylvania-brewed and European beers, with rotating taps and what Yelp reviewers call "innovative bar foods" in a "laid-back ambience." Jackbox gameplay brings the crowd together; happy hour runs 5–7 p.m. if you want to arrive early.
