Fire Museum Presents: Benefit for Juntos with Son Revoltura, Spectrum & Parsa Ferdowsi An evening to benefit Juntos with performances from the following: Son Revoltura : Son Revoltura has spent the last decade cultivating space for neighbors to connect with history, songs, and each other through the multicultural Mexican folk music tradition of son jarocho . You can find members practicing this style of music and dance everywhere in Philadelphia, from street demonstrations to professional stages to public parks, if you follow the sound of strumming string instruments ( jaranas ) and shoes tapping on the wooden dancefloor (the tarima ). Ximena Violante, born in Mexico City and raised in Pennsylvania since age seven, co-founded Son Revoltura with Yared Portillo after they both got exposed to other forms of Mexican traditional music during college. The friends began playing jaranas after traveling to gatherings in New York and DC, where other jaraneros marched among protestors, amplifying their political messages, or hosted workshops and fandangos , like jam sessions for participants of all ages and skill levels. Violante felt empowered by these musicians, so they decided to begin organizing similar spaces in Philadelphia “to pay it forward, all that generosity.” Spektrum : Spektrum is a neo-soul group rooted in Philadelphia’s Beyond The Bars program—a student driven, community-based music organization dedicated to interrupting cycles of violence and divestment by providing youth with instruments, mentorship, and a platform for creative expression. Originally students in the program, Spektrum’s members grew into educators, returning to help strengthen positive cycles of creation and inspiration. Drawing from a wide range of influences bass heavy rhythms, expressive guitar work, nocturnal grooves, and poetic urgency—their music is both meditative and confrontational. Formed at the end of the pandemic, Spektrum emerged not just as a band but an ongoing conversation between identities and sounds. As a duo, Spektrum stays open to collaboration, building with other artists to expand their sonic and creative reach. Through self produced projects and raw audiovisual storytelling, they aspire to carve out a distinct lane in the underground music scene. Their compositions speak to themes of longing, transformation, and resilience. Blending raw emotional truths with the search for something sacred in a fractured world. Making music for liminal spaces and the people who inhabit them. Parsa Ferdowsi : Parsa Ferdowsi is a musician and improviser, born and raised in Karaj, Iran. He is a member of Shiraz Ensemble (with Sina Homaee, Noushin Nowroozi, and Sepehr Pirasteh), and Taarof Duo (with Matt Wellins.) He has regularly worked with artists such as Nat Baldwin, Shawn O’Sullivan, Michael Pestel, and Negar Soleymanifar. His works have been performed by ensembles such as Pamplemousse Ensemble, String Noise Duo, and Wesleyan's Toneburst Laptop and Electronic Arts Ensemble. He also collaborated on some projects with Peter Zummo, David Vantieghem, Alex Waterman (as a part of the Arthur Russell’s City Park project led by Nick Hallet), David Behrman, Nicolas Collins, and Lea Bertucci. About Juntos : Juntos is a community-led, Latine, immigrant organization in South Philadelphia fighting for our human rights as workers, parents, youth, and immigrants. We believe that every human being has the right to a quality education and the freedom to live with dignity regardless of immigration status. Juntos combines leadership development, community organizing, and focused collaborations with other community-based and advocacy organizations to build the power of our community members so they may be active agents of change and work against their own oppression. $10 + suggested donation
