Juilliard Quartet
When PCMS last presented the renowned Juilliard Quartet with pianist Marc-André Hamelin, in 2019, a prolonged ovation followed a glorious interpretation of Dvořák’s Piano Quintet in A Major. “This was a performance, above all, of high polish and efficiency” ( Philadelphia Inquirer ). For their return appearance, the Juilliard and Hamelin—an artist known the world over for his unrivaled blend of consummate musicianship and radiant technique—unite for César Franck’s mammoth Piano Quintet in F Minor, a work that roils with passion and searing emotional intensity. Matthew Polenzani, tenor, and Ken Noda, piano
American tenor Matthew Polenzani delivered an unforgettable recital during his spring 2024 PCMS appearance, captivating audiences and prompting enthusiastic requests for his return. For his highly anticipated encore, Polenzani will be joined by pianist Ken Noda in a performance culminating with Schubert’s Schwanengesang (“Swan Song”). Composed in the final months of Schubert’s life, this haunting collection of 14 songs, widely regarded as one of his most profound creations, explores themes of longing and loss, with the presence of a distant beloved lingering throughout.
