Terra Quartet
Sold out. To join the waitlist, contact the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society at boxoffice@pcmsconcerts.org or 215-569-8080. Praised for their “remarkable maturity” (Hyde Park Herald) , the Terra Quartet’s program opens with one of Haydn’s “London” quartets and concludes with Brahms’s first quartet, completed in 1873 after years of revision. Symphonic in scope, the Brahms is notable for its rich textures and masterful interplay between the string instruments. Bridging these works is Borodin’s D Major Quartet, a piece composed in 1881 as an anniversary gift for his wife. It is structured around a programmatic narrative of the couple’s relationship, with the cello representing Borodin and the first violin representing his wife, Ekaterina.
