According to PhilaHistory.org, the market was established in 1745 by mayor Edward Shippen and Joseph Wharton. The Food Trust has operated it since 2007 with 40+ vendors at peak season. Accepts SNAP/EBT, Food Bucks, and WIC/senior vouchers. Winter hours (January-April) shorten to 10am-1pm. Pets no longer permitted inside the Shambles as of March 2025.

Sunday nights from 7–9 p.m. at Otto's Taproom, the 70-seat gastropub at 29th and Flora Streets in Brewerytown. The bar is named after Otto Charles Wolf, the prolific 19th-century architect who designed many of the neighborhood's historic breweries during Brewerytown's heyday as one of America's largest brewing centers. Otto's focuses on Pennsylvania-brewed and European beers, with rotating taps and what Yelp reviewers call "innovative bar foods" in a "laid-back ambience." Jackbox gameplay brings the crowd together; happy hour runs 5–7 p.m. if you want to arrive early.
